It has been a busy season last year, not many races were sailed, but who can say, not counting Mike Slade and Niklas Zennström, that their yacht sailed the Sydney to Hobart and the Fastnet Race, all in one season? It was a year with a lot of logistics and trouble solving. On return from Australia, WINSOME went immediately into the shed for some surgery of her hull to bring her back into pristine condition to sail the summer in Cowes and make a brief visit to Fastnet Rock. The last offshore race of the season brought us to Cherbourg and besides a nice croissant a class win as well.
To bring this into perspective, of how difficult it is to realise this and the size of the job, there are yachts which go into the shed immediately after a race, have a refit and come out just before the start of the same race except this time a year later! And this is just on one continent! Credits to Harry for the efficient planning and making it possible for WINSOME to compete in these high profile events that give the crew so much joy.
Anyway, at the moment an ice-breaker is ploughing through the Dutch lakes to open up the major transportation routes, people are skating on the ice and the forecast is snow. It is time to prepare WINSOME for upcoming season. More news on the preparations in the next update.
