day 4 in the race

August 26, 2010

After our last “painfull night” some of our frustrations faded away this morning. The wind came up and as from early this morning we are sailing with one of our competitors “Change of Course” in sight. 10-12 knots of wind are giving us a boatspeed of about 5 knots. Not great but it is 5 knots more than last night, so for us it is wonderfull.

After our last tack we are heading 020 degr.

Our position is now East of Montrose so still South of Aberdeen.

At 1300 UTC today we made a total of 454 Nm which means we covered only 78 Nm in the last 24 hours, in other words only 38% of the distance covered in the first 24 hours.

We are still a considerable distance behind “Selene” and behind “Beluga” but with another 1.300 Nm to go there is no reason to be or get desparate and our confidence in a good result is still alive.

For breakfast we had a porridge, for lunch “erwtensoep” [a Dutch green pea soup with meat].

Meantime we all became accustomed to our 3 hours off/3 hours on system.

The watermaker functions properly, internet is working. We are all developping new hobies. Wout for instance is reading Playboy, though he insists that he only has been looking at the frontcover.

Will be back on this webpage either later tonight or tomorrow morning.

Goede (honden)wacht.
